MY TRIP INDIA

About My Trip India

Travel India with purpose.

We are a small studio that plans journeys inside India and nowhere else. Nine years, ten regions, and one stubborn belief — that a country is worth learning properly before you start recommending it to anyone.

Our story

It began as a spreadsheet we kept sending to friends.

For years we were the people friends messaged a month before a trip. Which week to be in Spiti. Whether the Kaza road had opened yet. Whether it was worth losing a whole day to reach Dhanushkodi. The answers lived in one increasingly unmanageable spreadsheet — driving times, homestay numbers, the two drivers in Leh we would put our own family with.

In 2017 the spreadsheet stopped being a favour and became the work. We started writing routes properly: day by day, with the detours that earn their place and the ones that quietly do not. The rule from the first week was that nothing goes into a plan unless somebody here has driven it, walked it, or sat out a landslide on it.

That file is now ten regions of India, walked end to end. It still gets rewritten every season, because a road that was fine in October is not always fine in March, and a good homestay changes hands without telling anyone.

The team

Four people. Four parts of the country.

Nobody here plans a region they have not travelled. If your route crosses two desks, you get both of us on the same email.

Himalaya routes

Ladakh, Spiti and Uttarakhand. Has made the Manali–Kaza drive in five different Junes and still checks Kunzum La before promising anyone a date.

South India & backwaters

Grew up two streets from the Alappuzha jetty. Plans Kerala around the tides, the monsoon and Onam week rather than around a brochure.

The Northeast

Shillong-based. Knows which Meghalaya root bridges are worth the descent, and which village to sleep in the night before you attempt them.

Desert & heritage

Rajasthan and Kutch. Puts people in the smaller havelis, and times Jaisalmer so you are out past the last dune at the hour the light turns.

Placeholder portraits in this prototype. The four desks are genuinely how the country is divided between us.

Why India only

One country, known properly.

India is not a destination. It is roughly twenty of them stacked on top of each other. Leh to Kanyakumari is further than most long-haul flights people take, and the two ends share almost nothing — not the food, not the script, not the season, not the hour the day begins.

Learning that takes years of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. We would rather spend those years on one country than spread them thin across forty. It is the reason we can tell you that a day given to acclimatising in Leh saves three days lost to a headache, or that the hill roads in Meghalaya are a different proposition in July than the photographs suggest.

A planner who covers forty countries knows forty airports. We would rather know one country's back roads.

How we explain the job on the first call

Philosophy

Four rules we plan by.

They are not a mission statement. They are the things we argue about when a route is one day too long.

Routes before highlights

We plan the road between the famous places. That stretch is usually where the day turns memorable.

Slow enough to notice

Fewer stops, longer stays. Two nights in one town almost always beats one night in two.

Light on the places we love

Smaller vehicles, family-run stays, and months chosen so we are not adding to an already crowded season.

Local people, named

Every plan names the guides, drivers and cooks we know personally — small operators, never a call centre.

The difference

A catalogue, or a country.

Nothing against the large travel portals — they are built for scale, and scale is a genuinely different job from knowing a road. It is just not the job we do.

A general travel portal

  • Offers the same fortnight to everyone and lets the filters sort out the rest.
  • Lists a hill town without mentioning that its road is shut half of February.
  • Shows an itinerary that nobody on the team has actually travelled.
  • Replies in templates, from whoever in the queue reaches you first.

A studio that plans one country

  • Writes the route around your dates, your pace and what you have already seen.
  • Tells you when not to go, even on the occasions it costs us the trip.
  • Sends a plan someone here has driven, with the worthwhile detours marked.
  • Gives you one travel expert, by name, from the first message to the last.

Our approach

From one paragraph to a finished plan.

Four steps, and the last one still is not a commitment. Everything on this site ends in an enquiry.

  1. 01

Tell us the shape of the trip

Dates, a rough budget, who is coming and the one thing you would be sorry to miss. A single paragraph is plenty — we will ask the rest.

  2. 02

    We draft a route

Whoever owns that region writes it: day by day, with real driving times, the season you are travelling in, and the detours that earn their place.

  3. 03

You change it as often as you like

Swap a city, add two nights, remove the early start you know you will never make. There is no limit on redrafts and no charge for any of them.

  4. 04

We hand over a finished plan and local contacts

The final itinerary, the stays we would choose ourselves, and the names and numbers of the people on the ground who will look after you there.

Start with an enquiry

Every step above begins with one message. This website takes enquiries and nothing else.
